Tuition Guide and Agreement

Thank you for choosing or continuing to work with me.

Whether you're preparing for auditions, working towards exams, building confidence or simply singing for enjoyment, I'm delighted to be part of your vocal journey.

This guide explains how tuition works, what you can expect from me, and what I'll ask of you in return. It also forms our tuition agreement for the 2026–27 academic year.

COMMITMENTS

MY COMMITMENT TO YOU

When working with me you can expect me to:

  • be on time and fully present for every session.

  • continue developing my knowledge of voice science, evidence-based practice and vocal pedagogy so that I can provide you with the highest quality teaching possible.

  • support and honour your individual vocal goals.

  • provide a safe, kind and supportive environment in which to learn and grow

  • treat all people with respect, regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, disability, or national origin, both inside and outside the sessions.

WHAT YOUR INVESTMENT SUPPORTS

Your lesson fees support far more than the time we spend together in your lesson. They allow me to continue providing a high-quality learning experience by investing time in:

  • planning and preparing lessons tailored to your goals

  • researching repertoire and learning materials

  • reviewing performances and providing feedback where appropriate

  • ongoing professional development, courses and independent study

  • maintaining teaching resources, equipment and technology

  • lesson administration, scheduling and communication

  • collaborating with other voice professionals to continually develop my teaching practice

This work takes place behind the scenes and forms an important part of the service I provide. It enables me to deliver lessons that are thoughtful, well prepared and tailored to each individual student.

YOUR COMMITMENT

To help you get the most from your lessons, I'll ask you to:

  • ask questions whenever you don't fully understand a concept, exercise or technique.

  • practice what we cover in lessons, as consistently as you can, so that you can continue progressing towards your goals

  • treat all people with respect, regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, disability, or national origin, both inside and outside the sessions.

Behaviour that is abusive, discriminatory, threatening or repeatedly disrespectful may result in lessons being suspended or tuition being ended.

WHY IT MATTERS

Learning to sing is an investment in a skill that can stay with you for life. Alongside developing your singing voice, you'll also build confidence, strengthen your speaking voice and develop a deeper understanding of how your voice works.

My aim is for you to feel heard, supported and encouraged throughout your learning journey, whilst enjoying every lesson. As well as developing practical vocal skills, we'll explore the science and theory behind the voice, helping you understand not just what to do, but why it works. My hope is that you'll leave lessons feeling empowered to make healthy, confident and creative vocal choices for years to come

HOW IT WORKS

I offer two ways to work with me, allowing you to choose the option that best suits your goals and schedule.

REGULAR STUDENTS

The Regular Student Programme is designed for students who wish to take lessons regularly throughout the term.

Each term, Regular Students purchase a Regular Student Package, which includes:

  • 10 lessons per term at your chosen lesson length (30, 45 or 60 minutes).

  • A consistent lesson format for the duration of the package (Online or Home Visit). Your selected lesson format is selected when purchasing your package and applies to all lessons within that package unless otherwise agreed.

  • Priority access to lesson bookings before they open to Ad Hoc students.

  • Discounted lesson rates.

  • Flexible lesson scheduling throughout the term.

  • The option to pay in full or spread the cost of your package over two instalments.

  • Catch-up lessons where needed. If, due to cancellations or unforeseen circumstances, not all lessons are completed within the term, any outstanding lessons will be arranged as catch-up lessons where possible. These lessons remain part of the current term's package and are not deducted from a future package.

AD HOC LESSONS

Ad Hoc lessons are ideal if you would prefer occasional tuition without committing to the Regular Student Programme.

Lessons can be booked individually or as block bookings and are subject to availability once the Regular Student priority booking window has closed.

LESSON TIMES
I understand how valuable routine and consistency can be, and wherever possible I aim to keep students in the same weekly lesson time from one term to the next. However, lesson times cannot be guaranteed.

My teaching timetable changes throughout the academic year due to my wider professional commitments, meaning lesson schedules are reviewed each term.

Being a Regular Student guarantees priority access to bookings, but it does not guarantee a permanently reserved weekly lesson time.

When planning each term's timetable, I will always aim to minimise disruption and make as few changes as possible, whilst creating a timetable that works fairly and effectively for all students.

SCHEDULING AND PAYMENT

AD HOC LESSONS

  • Ad Hoc lessons should be booked through my online booking system at least 48 hours in advance, unless we've agreed otherwise.

  • Payment is taken at the time of booking via the booking system.

  • Where an alternative payment method has been agreed, payment must be received by the agreed date. If payment is not received, I reserve the right to cancel your booking..

REGULAR STUDENTS

  • Regular Students purchase a Regular Student Package before booking lessons for the term.

  • Packages may be paid in full or split into two instalments.

  • Payment is taken through the online booking system when purchasing a package.

  • Where an alternative payment method has been agreed, payment must be received by the agreed date. If payment is not received, I reserve the right to cancel your booking.

  • Before each term begins, I'll let you know how lessons will be organised. Depending on my teaching timetable, lessons may either be arranged directly with me, booked through the online booking system, or a combination of both.

  • Where possible, I'll aim to keep students in the same regular lesson time. However, lesson times cannot be guaranteed.

  • Purchasing a Regular Student Package provides priority access to lesson bookings, but not a permanently reserved weekly lesson time. Lesson schedules are reviewed each term, and whilst I'll always endeavour to maintain existing lesson times where possible, changes may occasionally be necessary to accommodate my overall teaching timetable.

  • Once a lesson has been arranged, that time is reserved exclusively for you.

  • Regular Student Packages are valid for the term in which they are purchased. Where lessons remain outstanding due to cancellations or unforeseen circumstances, catch-up lessons will be arranged where possible. Outstanding lessons are not deducted from the following term's package.

Alternative payment methods are offered at my discretion and are not guaranteed.

RESCHEDULING AND CANCELLATIONS

I understand that life doesn't always go to plan. Wherever possible, I'll do my best to be flexible, but because lesson times are reserved exclusively for you, the following cancellation policy applies.

RESCHEDULING

  • Lessons may be rescheduled up to 48 hours before the scheduled start time without charge.

  • Requests made between 24 and 48 hours before the lesson will incur a fee of 50% of the lesson price.

  • Lessons cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged in full.

IF I NEED TO CANCEL, you won't lose your lesson credit. I'll always offer a suitable alternative lesson time or another appropriate solution.

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTALITY

  • If you're attending online, please ensure you have suitable equipment and a reliable internet connection before booking. You're responsible for your ability to connect to the lesson.

  • Please arrive or log in no more than 5 minutes before your scheduled lesson time.

  • If you're running late or experiencing technical difficulties, please let me know as soon as possible via the contact details below:

  • If you arrive late, your lesson will still finish at the scheduled time so that subsequent lessons are not affected.

  • If you haven't arrived or contacted me within 10 minutes, I'll send you a text or email to check everything is okay.

  • If you haven't arrived within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time, the lesson will be treated as a missed lesson and charged in accordance with the cancellation policy.

ILLNESS

Please don't assume you need to cancel your lesson simply because you're unwell.

Many lessons can still be highly productive without lots of singing. Depending on how you're feeling, we can focus on areas such as:

  • repertoire selection

  • musicianship

  • music theory

  • sight singing and rhythm reading

  • performance preparation

  • vocal health and recovery

  • listening and analysis

If you're attending in person and are contagious, we may be able to move your lesson online where appropriate.

If your voice is tired due to recent singing or heavy voice use, it's usually beneficial to attend your lesson. We can adapt the session to focus on vocal recovery, healthy technique and strategies to prevent the issue recurring.

Of course, genuine emergencies and exceptional circumstances do happen. In these situations, I'll always use my discretion and work with you to find the fairest solution.

COMMUNICATION

Clear communication helps lessons run smoothly and ensures important information isn't missed.

  • Email is my primary method of communication for bookings, cancellations, payments and other administrative matters.

  • Text messages should be used for urgent matters only, such as running late or experiencing technical difficulties on the day of a lesson.

  • I aim to respond to emails and messages as soon as reasonably possible, although responses may occasionally take longer during busy teaching periods or school holidays.

  • For students under the age of 18, routine communication will be with a parent or guardian. I won't communicate privately with students under 18 unless this has been agreed in advance with their parent or guardian and is appropriate to do so.

  • Please ensure your contact details remain up to date and let me know if these change during the academic year.

SAFEGUARDING

The safety and wellbeing of my students is always my priority.

  • I maintain an enhanced DBS certificate and undertake regular safeguarding training.

  • All lessons are delivered in accordance with current safeguarding guidance and professional standards.

  • If I have any safeguarding concerns regarding a student, I have a legal and professional duty to follow the appropriate safeguarding procedures.

  • Parents or guardians are responsible for ensuring children arrive safely to and from lessons unless otherwise agreed.

  • Online lessons should take place in an appropriate environment, with a responsible adult nearby where appropriate.

  • Personal information is handled in accordance with my Privacy Notice.

CHANGES TO YOUR TUITION

Whilst I aim to provide consistency wherever possible, there may occasionally be times when lessons or tuition arrangements need to change.

FLEXIBILITY AND PROFESSIONAL COMMITMENTS

As a freelance vocal coach, my teaching timetable is shaped by a variety of professional commitments throughout the academic year. Whilst I always aim to provide as much consistency as possible, there may occasionally be times when I need to make changes to lesson arrangements, booking processes or the way my timetable is organised. This may occasionally include changes to lesson times, lesson formats, booking arrangements or teaching locations.

These decisions are never made lightly. My priority is always to create a timetable that is fair, sustainable and works in the best interests of both my students and my business. Wherever possible, I'll provide plenty of notice and communicate any changes clearly.

I appreciate your understanding and flexibility when these situations arise.

ENDING TUITION

Regular Student Packages are purchased on a term-by-term basis and do not renew automatically.

If you decide not to continue into the following term, I'd really appreciate as much notice as possible and, where you can, around half a term's notice. Ideally, I'd ask for around half a term's notice, as this allows me to plan my timetable and offer places to other students.

CHANGES AND EXCEPTIONS

  • This Tuition Guide & Agreement is reviewed annually and may occasionally be updated to reflect changes to my teaching practice or business.

  • Lesson fees may also be reviewed periodically. Any changes will always be communicated in advance and will apply only to future bookings or packages.

  • Occasionally, I may make exceptions to these policies where I feel it is fair and appropriate to do so. Any exception applies only to that specific situation and does not create an ongoing entitlement or precedent.

  • Any significant changes will be communicated before they take effect, and an updated agreement will be issued where appropriate.

  • In exceptional circumstances beyond my reasonable control, I may need to make temporary changes to how lessons are delivered or organised. Where possible, suitable alternative arrangements will be offered and any changes will be communicated as soon as reasonably practicable.
